Four ways onto a screen, and one honest table

Nothing here needs new hardware. Pick whichever suits each room, and mix them freely across a single estate.

Why only Android can cover another app

Android will not let any application draw over a different one without a specific permission, and no other platform here exposes the capability at all, a browser tab cannot do it on any operating system. So if a screen has to interrupt a news channel somebody else is running, it needs the Android player and that one permission. It is granted once per screen, and the panel then watches it for you.

  • Granted from the set itself, or in bulk with our provisioning script
  • Re-checked on every heartbeat, a firmware update can revoke it months later
  • Any screen that has lost it is flagged in the panel, before you need it
